IKEA’s 1.063 MW PV Installation in New Jersey with REC Solar

IKEA continues to make its stores more sustainable. The company has connected a 1,063kW PV system at its store in Paramus, New Jersey to the grid. The system is 132,000 square feet in size and utilizes 4,620 PV panels. This is Ikea’s 17th solar power installation in the US.

Ikea does not have any PPAs but operates every store’s system itself. Just like with former projects, REC Solar was responsible for the design, development and installation of the system.

Ikea Teams with REC Solar to Power up Solar Energy Panels at Store in Paramus, N.J.

Ikea said it has officially plugged in the solar energy system installed at its location in Paramus, N.J.

Ikea contracted with REC Solar for the development, design and installation of the customized solar power system. The 132,000-sq.-ft. PV array consists of a 1,063-kW system, built with 4,620 panels. It will produce approximately 1,359,100 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 1,033 tons of carbon dioxide, eliminating the emissions of 184 cars or powering 117 homes yearly.

IKEA to Install Solar Panels at Suburban Pittsburgh Store

RobinsonTownship’s IKEA is helping Pittsburgh become more “green.” The company announced it will be installing solar panels at an additional 20 of its 44 U.S. stores, including the one in Robinson Township.

IKEA spokesman Joseph Roth said the money saved from the energy bill might not necessarily go back into the community, but the installation could create some short-term jobs and will have environmental benefits.

West Chester’s IKEA Activates Solar Energy System

The IKEA in West Chester is now powering its lights, operating its cash registers and cooking its Swedish meatballs using a solar energy system that is located on the store’s rooftop.

Heather Spatz, West Chester’s IKEA store manager, officially announced Tuesday the activation of the solar energy system that is expected to produce approximately 1,334,300 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.

IKEA's U.S. Solar Presence Grows to 75% Solar Energy

IKEA announced plans to install solar energy panels on 10 additional US locations—its entire presence in the Southern US.

Pending governmental permits, installation can begin this winter, with completion expected in summer 2012. Collectively, the nine stores and one distribution centre will total 10.7 megawatts (MW) of solar generating capacity, nearly 45,360 solar panels and a projected annual electricity output of 15,248,334 kilowatt hours (kWh).

Ikea to Install More Than 5,000 Solar Panels on Tampa Store

Ultra modern-style Swedish retailer Ikea will modernize much of its own power use by expanding an already large project to install solar panels atop its stores in the Southeast.

The project will place panels on nearly two dozen stores across the United States; in Tampa, that means Ikea will cover nearly its entire store roof — a space the size of several football fields.
