An earthquake measured 6.4 hit southern Taiwan at 3:57 (GMT+8), February 6, 2016. Fortunately, local PV manufacturers remained mostly intact over the natural hazard. Following are situations of two major PV manufacturers located in Tainan, the southern city that suffered severely from the earthquake.
Motech
Water and power supply outraged after the earthquake hit but already being rehabilitated. Certain production lines are suspended producing while some have returned production. The actual impact is still under evaluation.
It is reported that c-Si wafers that were under production when the earthquake hit were damaged. As a result, it will take a longer time for renewing crystallization and quality checks.
E-tron
Components of some of the company’s producing machines dropped due the the earthquake. Fortunately, the shake didn’t cause severe damage to the plant so the company expected to restart production soon.
