Goodyear Rubber Company’s manufacturing facility in Rancho Cucamonga, California is now operated by a 1MW solar array installed atop of its rooftop. The solar array is comprised of more than 3,000 solar PV modules, and Yaskawa-Solectria Solar, a U.S.-based solar PV inverter manufacturer, has supplied 33 three-phase, transformerless inverters for the array.
The Goodyear Rubber Rancho Cucamonga facility was built in 1961 and the Company is an offshoot of the original Goodyear Rubber Company established in 1872. To reduce operating expenses and carbon footprints, Goodyear chose to own a PV system by itself and selected REP Solar to develop the project. Over the 25-year lifetime, the solar array is expected to generate approximately 40 million kWh of solar electricity and help save the company $8,000,000.

By utilizing these inverters, the system owner can reduce a system’s LCOE and product higher financial returns.
