India's national solar PV installations were already exceeded 8GW by the end of July, announced Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi swearing in 2014, he has been promoting solar power generation remarkably through several aspects. India set up to install 100GW of PV systems by 2022 across the nation. Besides, Modi encouraged foreign investors to invest in India and establish joint ventures with Indian local companies.
solar PV installations across India reached 7.8GW by the end of June 2016 and 8,062MW by the end of July, according to MNRE’s latest installation statistics. Among India, any single state with more than 200MW installations were: Rajasthan (1,295MW), Tamil Nadu (1,267MW), Gujarat (1,123MW), Andhra Pradesh (936MW), Telangana (846MW), Madhya Pradesh (790MW), Punjab (521MW), Maharashtra (385MW), and Karnataka (238MW)
The policies
MNRE joint secretary Tarun Kapoor had a latest request to Indian Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). Kapoor would like to ensure the priority of solar power by the CERC because solar energy has not received as many incentives as thermal power generation (mainly the coal-fired) has.
Furthermore, Indian Ministry of Power is following out "Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana" (DDUGJY), a policy scheme designed for promoting distributed generations (DG), to electrify remote regions where are outside of the power grids, or where the power costs are too high to afford. The scheme of DDUGJY mostly focused on DG systems such as biomass, biofuels, biogas, mini hydro and solar. There were already 4,606 projects receiving 60% subsidies of their installation costs under DDUGJY.
Adding to Indian government's effort, India also gets international supports. For example, USA earlier promised to offer US$20 million liquidity to India, in order to assist India's development of renewable energies.
