Mitsubishi Electric, a manufacturer of a diverse line of products that founded in 1921 in Japan, has installed 369kW of solar array on the rooftop of its U.S. headquarters in Cypress, California. All the solar panels installed were manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric’s PV division.
“Mitsubishi Electric is pleased to contribute to the community and environment by producing clean energy with our own solar modules,” said Kiyoshi Furukawa, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. “The system proves that businesses can be both environmentally and financially sustainable.”
Consisting of 1,380 solar panels, the Mitsubishi Electric US rooftop solar array is expected to generate 547,865kWh of clean electricity within the first year of production. For the following 20 years, the system is expected to supply approximately 90% of the headquarters’ electricity demand and help save up to 85% in electric costs, allowing the system to pay for itself in less than five years. Besides, the system will be able to offset 424 tons of greenhouse emissions per year.
Mitsubishi Electric has more than 40 years of experience in manufacturing solar panels. The system designer and installer, Sherman Oaks based Sun Integration, utilized 690 Mitsubishi Electric’s Diamond Premium™ and 690 Diamond Pro™ high-efficiency PV modules to construct to rooftop PV array. Sun Integration selected 10 Yaskawa-Solectria Solar PVI 36TL transformerless, three-phase string inverters along with non-penetrating racking by PanelClaw. These products offered a quick and safe installation.
The building is owned by Warland Investments Company, marking the first solar project on a Warland property.
