Taiwan’s Executive Yuan announced earlier that they will go over all the public space and find the place that’s suitable for PV installation. Meanwhile, Taiwan Power Company and Taiwan Water Company announced to collaborate in floating PV plant investment. Taiwan Sugar Company has started to make evaluation on this investment too. Taiwan Power and Taiwan Water Companies indicated that they will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on November 29th and together they will build the nation’s first floating PV plant at Lantan Lake in Chiayi and Chengcing Lake in Kaohsiung.
The installed capacity is 5MW, with an investment of NT$ 300-400 million. In addition, the two companies also plan to install ground-mounted solar panels at nine water purification plants in Southern Taiwan. The installed capacity will be 10MW, with the investment reaching NT$ 500-600 million. The total amount of investment for the two projects is NT$ 1 billion and they may expand further in the future. Taiwan Power Company said once the projects are completed, an electricity of 21 million kWh will be generated – enough to power 5,800 households and reduce 11,000 tons of carbon dioxide every year.
On the other hand, Taiwan Power Company has found 75 more places that can install solar panels on the roof-top, including its business and electric offices.
There are spaces in Cigu Salt Pan Wetland and Changhua Coastal Industrial Park, allowing each to build 4.2MW and 100MW of PV installation too. According to the Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, in 2017, floating PV plants can enjoy a subsidy of NT$ 4.9403/kWh.
