Pennsylvania has moved to incorporate additional renewable energy sources to its energy supply over the past decade. Those efforts have paid off: This week, Dynamic Solar announced this week it completed the installation of the biggest solar panel system in Philadelphia.
According to company executives, the 250-megawatt photovoltaic system will help power the city's Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant. The solar panel system was built with the help of CETCO Contracting Services and created jobs during its installation. When the system is fully operational, it will generate nearly 330,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually.
The large-scale solar panel array will help the city to lower its greenhouse gas emissions and cut its energy bills, Dynamic Solar president Mike Perillo affirmed. "This solar system will be producing clean renewable energy for years to come," Perillo said in a statement. "The city of Philadelphia is setting an example for Pennsylvania in seizing this opportunity to meet the state's growing demand for energy with solar."
On Monday, the city will hold a formal ceremony to dedicate the new photovoltaic system. According to Perillo, the solar panel system will displace nearly 220 metric tons of carbon dioxide every year.
