In late March, major Chinese oil and gas company Sinopec released a report on the company’s progress in sustainable development during 2021. This story was first reported by local Chinese news outlets.
In the report, Sinopec said that it proceeded with its in-depth “PV+” action plan that integrates PV generation with gas stations so as to save energy and reduce carbon emissions. The same plan also calls for more brand marketing in the area of green energy and greater adoption of BIPV. In carrying out this plan last year, Sinopec was working to set up solar canopies and solar roofs for 30,000-plus of its gas stations across China. The company wanted to effectively use the unoccupied rooftop spaces of its facilities to develop distributed PV generation capacity and achieve carbon neutrality for its business operations.
Sinopec said that as of the end of 2021, the company possessed 1,253 distributed PV projects, of which 1,048 were newly built during the year. The total installed capacity reached 43.8MW. Looking ahead, Sinopec projects that the number of this type of project will reach around 7,000 by 2025. The PV systems that are integrated into the company’s gas stations will meet the electricity needs of the stations themselves and power the EV charging infrastructure that is being set up by the company.
