Toyota Motor Corporation, has showcased a mind-boggling electric concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
The TES-ERA EV, captivating and attractive at the first glimpse itself, is the culmination of work done by the Toyota Engineering Society, which consists mainly of engineers of Toyota, and was created to promote and foster new ideas and technology, while also sharpening the skills of its members. According to Toyota, there are over 30,000 members worldwide.
The TES-ERA EV features fiberglass bodywork and is powered by a 5.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, which outputs electricity to a 4JM electric motor. Power output measures in at 164 horsepower and 247lb-ft of torque.
The vehicle uses 100 percent electric energy to propel its wheels. Though a number of other manufacturers have already released their own electric models, TES-ERA is quite different from them. In fact, it resembles a conventional car from its exterior design. One could easily recognize this model as a sports car, but it is absolutely difficult to predict it as an EV unless mentioned explicitly.
A 4JM electric motor forms the propelling source for this vehicle. This motor has the capacity to churn out power with an excellent efficiency. The motor extracts its energy from a Lithium-ion batteries that are stacked together as a single pack. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels. The inclusion of a differential mechanism is more likely to be present in the vehicle; however, it is uncertain at this point.
TES-ERA has a very advanced energy saving system that are currently used only in Formula cars. This advanced technology is called as Kinetic Energy Recovery System which helps the vehicle to save its kinetic energy under braking conditions. The stored energy could be utilized at high speeds and abrupt acceleration.
