The Energy Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs has organized the “Taiwan Excellent PV Products Selection” since 2013 to help drive the ongoing development of renewable energy and enhance quality and international competitiveness of Taiwan’s solar PV products. As part of this initiative, the “Taiwan Excellent PV Award ” was established to publicly recognize outstanding domestic solar PV products for their superior efficiency and quality.
The award’s evaluation criteria are based on the latest standards on the latest standards set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and are dynamically adjusted in accordance with global market trends and local environmental requirements. Through a comprehensive and rigorous testing and review mechanism, the award aims to identify products that demonstrate exceptional performance and durability, thereby guiding Taiwan’s solar industry toward technological advancement and improved product quality.
The 13th Annual Taiwan Excellent PV Award includes four main categories: general-type modules, niche modules, solar cells, and inverters. Notably, this year’s evaluation for solar modules and cells introduced a new test for ultraviolet-induced degradation (UVID), in response to Taiwan’s high-temperature, high-humidity, and year-round intense sunlight conditions.
Modules must endure a cumulative ultraviolet radiation of 120 kWh/m2, with a maximum allowable power degradation of 5%, to ensure product reliability and maintain stable performance under prolonged outdoor exposure.
Additionally, this year places greater emphasis on mechanical strength. The static mechanical load test standard has been raised to +5400 Pa to simulate the structural stress caused by strong winds, validating the module’s safety and performance under extreme weather conditions.
By raising testing standards, the Taiwan Excellent PV Award ensures that awarded modules not only demonstrate outstanding energy conversion efficiency but also exhibit mechanical durability and environmental adaptability to support long-term outdoor operation.
In the inverter category, in addition to the existing efficiency test, copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray (CASS) test, and freeze-thaw cycle test, cybersecurity requirements have been introduced for the first time this year. As smart control and remote monitoring become increasingly common in PV systems, cybersecurity risks are drawing greater attention.
The updated evaluation guidelines refer to the “Technical Specification for Cybersecurity Testing of Solar PV Inverters and Monitoring Units,” requiring products to demonstrate capabilities such as preventing malicious intrusion, blocking unauthorized operations, and protecting user data. These measures aim to ensure the stable operation of power systems and safeguard the security of critical infrastructure.
The registration deadline for this year’s Taiwan Excellent PV Award was May 16th, 2025. The preliminary eligibility review has been completed, and the award process has officially entered the product testing phase. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in late October 2025, where outstanding companies and products will be publicly recognized.
