On Thursday, June 19, local time, the Minister of Industry and the Governor of Central Java inaugurated PT Trina Mas Agra Indonesia's (TMAI) integrated solar cell and module factory in the Kendall Special Economic Zone in Central Java.
It is reported that this is Indonesia's largest solar cell and module integration manufacturing plant, the project's total investment of more than 1.5 trillion rupiah (equivalent to about 657 million yuan). The new plant has an annual production capacity of 1GW The plant adopts TOPCon technology and produces modules with a peak power of 720W for a single set, with a potential efficiency of 26%.
The plant, operated by Trina Solar Indonesia (TMAI) and located in the Kendal Special Economic Zone (SEZ), is a joint venture between China's Trina Solar, Cotai Group's Dian Swastatika Sentosa, state-owned utilities PLN Indonesia Power Renewable and Agra Surya Energy. Energy to jointly build it, TMAI will fulfill its commitment to absorb the local workforce, saying that about 60 percent of its 640 employees are residents of Kendall and surrounding areas.
As of June 2024, Indonesia's domestic solar module production capacity grew by 2.3%, according to Indonesia's Ministry of Industry. Currently, local solar panels are 30-45% more expensive than imported alternatives, largely due to the lack of key certifications that limit financing.TMAI is the first domestic manufacturer to receive KIR1 (Local Content) certification, simplifying access to financing through financial institutions.
Indonesia's Minister of Industry for its inauguration emphasized that the synergistic layout of solar cell and module production, to create an integrated ecology of Indonesia's renewable energy industry has a core value, pointing out that this type of plant is of great significance to Indonesia's clean energy roadmap to reduce import dependence, cultivate the local green manufacturing capacity, and to promote the local module products to be more competitive than imports, so as to achieve the long-term vision of independent and controllable energy technology! The government hopes that the solar module industry will break through the positioning of technology suppliers and become a driving force in building economic sovereignty and job creation in the clean energy sector.
In order to support the renewable energy target, Indonesia has set a target of obtaining 52.8GW of electricity from renewable energy sources (of which 17.1GW is expected to come from solar energy) from 2025-2034, and TMAI's new factory will directly contribute to this target by boosting the local production capacity and reducing the reliance on overseas imports.
