On June 29, Tesla announced on social media that its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery factory in Nevada, USA, is nearing completion and will soon begin production.
The factory is expected to have an initial production capacity of 10 GWh, primarily serving Tesla's energy storage business and select vehicle models. The equipment is supplied by CATL, while Tesla retains full operational control of the facility.
Recently, the development of the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery industry in the United States has significantly accelerated.
LG Energy Solution (LGES) has completed two LFP battery production lines at its Michigan facility, and began mass production of pouch-type LFP batteries for energy storage this month.
Ford’s first self-built LFP battery factory, developed under a technology licensing agreement with CATL, has completed its main structure. Equipment installation is about to begin, with production slated to start next year.
General Motors has also requested that LGES and SDI add LFP battery production lines to their joint venture battery plants in the U.S.
