According to recent reports from Turkish media, Astronergy Europe—the European subsidiary of Astronergy—and Turkish solar module manufacturer Alfa Solar have signed a joint venture agreement. The two parties plan to build a wafer and solar cell production base in Balıkesir Province, Türkiye.
The project will be implemented through a joint venture named Astroenergy. Phase I is expected to involve an investment of approximately USD 200 million (around RMB 1.42 billion), which will mainly be used for plant construction, equipment procurement, and R&D activities.
In terms of shareholding structure, once all planned equity transfers and capital increase procedures are completed, Astronergy and Alfa Solar will each hold 50% of the joint venture.
The project aims for an initial annual production capacity of 2.5 GW, covering both wafer and solar cell manufacturing. It is designed to meet demand in the Turkish domestic market while also supplying exports to Europe and other regions. Currently, the project still requires approval from local regulatory authorities before construction can officially begin.
In addition, the project will receive support under Türkiye’s High-Tech Investment Program (HIT-30), administered by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. The incentives include a 20% subsidy for equipment purchases and a five-year corporate income tax reduction.
Previously, on July 23, 2025, Astronergy announced plans to invest USD 700 million in Balıkesir, an industrial city in western Türkiye, to build a 5 GW integrated PV manufacturing base. Phase I would focus on 3 GW of wafer and cell capacity, while Phase II would expand total capacity to 5 GW, covering the full value chain of wafers, cells, and modules, with full production targeted for 2028.
The partnership with Alfa Solar marks the official start of this plan. By combining their respective technological strengths and market resources in the photovoltaic sector, the two companies will jointly advance the smooth implementation of the joint venture project.
