In recent days, multiple new energy material and battery projects across various regions have made rapid progress. Key developments—including groundbreaking ceremonies, project signings, and mass-production milestones—have been seen in lithium battery separators, high-performance battery materials, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials, and solid-state battery production lines. The pace of capacity expansion across the industry chain continues to accelerate, with technological routes advancing in parallel.
Yunnan Energy New Material Begins Construction of Yuxi Lithium Battery Separator Project
On November 17, Yunnan Energy New Material Co., Ltd. officially broke ground on Phase II of its lithium battery separator production line project in Yuxi, Yunnan, which is designed with an annual capacity of 1.6 billion square meters.
According to reports, the Yuxi separator project carries a total investment of approximately RMB 4.5 billion, covering around 485 mu. The project plans to build production lines with a total capacity of 1.6 billion square meters. It will be implemented in two phases:
• Phase I involves an investment of RMB 2.4 billion and will produce 800 million square meters annually.
• Phase II involves an investment of RMB 2.1 billion and will also produce 800 million square meters annually.
Earlier information shows that Phase I held its groundbreaking ceremony on July 19, 2023, and is expected to be completed and commissioned before the end of December 2024.
XTC New Energy Materials Plans 50,000-Ton Battery Material Project
On the evening of November 18, XTC New Energy Materials (Xiamen) Co., Ltd. announced that it intends to invest RMB 600 million to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary—Xiamen Canghai New Energy Materials Co., Ltd.—which will construct a high-performance battery material project with an annual output of 50,000 tons. The project’s total planned investment is RMB 1.525 billion, funded through internal resources and bank loans.
The project will involve equipment procurement and the construction of a 50,000-ton-per-year high-performance battery material production line. The planned construction period runs from November 2025 to December 2029 (subject to actual progress).
Chengtun Mining Group Signs 200,000-Ton LFP Project
Recently, Chengtun Mining Group Co., Ltd. officially signed its “Mining-Chemical-Material Integration” lithium iron phosphate cathode material project, marking the successful landing of the company’s largest single LFP investment to date.
Reports indicate that the project has a total investment of RMB 5.9 billion and includes annual capacity for 240,000 tons of iron phosphate and 200,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate. Located in Fuquan City, Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou Province, the project will leverage the region’s phosphate resource reserves—over 2 billion tons—to build a fully integrated industry chain from phosphate mining to iron phosphate and LFP cathode production.
This Fuquan project represents a key step in Chengtun’s dual-core strategy in Guizhou, which simultaneously promotes high-end ternary precursor materials and high-performance LFP cathode materials. It will support the company in expanding its product portfolio from a focus on ternary precursors to include LFP cathode materials.
Axxiva New Energy Enters Final Stage Before Mass Production of Solid-State Battery Project
Recently, Anhui Axxiva New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. completed the installation and commissioning of the last major piece of equipment for the world’s first GWh-level new-type solid-state battery production line in Wuhu—marking the project’s entry into the final sprint toward mass production.
According to available information, Phase I of the production line covers 150 mu within the Wuhu Solid-State Battery Industrial Park. The project has a total investment of RMB 1.8 billion, with an initial designed capacity of 1.25 GWh and a planned full build-out reaching 5 GWh. The facility can supply batteries for 120,000 new energy vehicles or 5 GWh of energy storage systems.
At present, the company’s first-generation products have achieved an energy density of over 300 Wh/kg. Second-generation samples with an energy density of 400 Wh/kg have entered trial production. The company plans to launch third-generation all-solid-state batteries with an energy density exceeding 500 Wh/kg by 2027.
