Recently, the Fujian Provincial Department of Finance and the Fujian Provincial Department of Science and Technology issued a notice regarding the allocation of construction and operational subsidies for provincial innovation laboratories in 2025. Among the recipients, CATL Innovation Laboratory received 126 million yuan for construction and 50 million yuan for operations, totaling 176 million yuan.
It is reported that the CATL Innovation Laboratory (China Fujian Energy Device Science and Technology Innovation Laboratory) is the province’s first provincial innovation laboratory established with government support and based on a private enterprise.
The 176 million yuan subsidy will provide stronger resources to support CATL in key areas such as solid-state batteries, sodium-ion batteries, improving cycle life, and optimizing safety systems.
Leveraging CATL’s industrial advantages, the innovation laboratory has accumulated technical expertise within vertical technology departments and can rapidly integrate resources horizontally when addressing challenges, forming a highly efficient and collaborative operational team. Currently, the laboratory’s R&D team consists of over 1,200 members, with 55% holding a master’s degree or higher, and an average age of 29, demonstrating strong innovative vitality.
At the same time, to ensure effective use of public funds, relevant departments in Ningde will actively promote the accelerated construction of the CATL Innovation Laboratory, supervise the strengthening of internal management, and strictly enforce the management measures for special funds and the performance objectives for allocated subsidies, ensuring that funds are used for their designated purposes.
