In recent days, China’s energy storage and battery industry chain has seen several major project developments. These include the groundbreaking of Ampace’s Xiamen Phase II Stage II project, the launch of Firmvolt Technology Ltd.’s solid-state battery pilot line, as well as the signing of Shanghai Electric’s 5GWh vanadium-flow energy storage project and a 50GWh large-scale storage project in Xining.
01 Ampace Xiamen Phase II Stage II Project Breaks Ground
Recently, the second phase (Stage II) of the Ampace Xiamen Phase II project officially broke ground.
The project is invested by Ampace, with a total investment of RMB 5.7 billion and a planned production capacity of around 9GWh.
The Ampace Xiamen project is a lithium battery manufacturing base jointly invested by CATL and Amperex Technology Limited (ATL) through their joint venture Ampace.
Phase I of the project was signed in September 2021, began construction in December 2021, and reached full production at the end of 2023.
Phase II covers 780 mu of land, with a planned production capacity of 18GWh and a total planned investment of RMB 10 billion.
The Phase II Stage I project passed environmental approval in November 2024, adding nine new cell production lines and thirty module production lines.
The production-area plant buildings passed completion acceptance on November 7, 2025.
02 Firmvolt Technology Launches Solid-State Battery Pilot Line
On the morning of December 4, Firmvolt Technology held a groundbreaking ceremony for its 100MWh dry-process all-solid-state lithium metal pouch cell pilot line in Anji, Huzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The pilot line is designed with an annual capacity of 100MWh, enabling mass production of cell formats including 8Ah, 20Ah, and 70Ah.
It will also focus on trial production and verification of 108Ah large-capacity cells, and is expected to enter formal production in the first quarter of 2026.
03 Shanghai Electric Signs 5GWh Energy Storage Project
On December 4, Shanghai Electric Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. and the People’s Government of Tancheng County officially signed a key cooperation agreement for a 5GWh-per-year vanadium-flow battery energy storage system integration project.
Leveraging Tancheng’s industrial base in battery components and storage system integration, the project aims to enhance grid stability by mitigating the intermittency of wind and solar power.
Located at a major transportation hub with abundant energy resources, Tancheng can effectively serve both the Yangtze River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei markets.
In the future, the project will establish an integrated “generation–grid–load” energy storage system, driving Shandong’s low-carbon energy transition and the development of new quality productive forces.
04 50GWh Large-Scale Energy Storage Project Signed in Xining
On December 7, a large-scale energy storage industrial project with a total investment exceeding RMB 10 billion was signed with the Xining National Economic and Technological Development Zone.
The project will focus on energy storage system integration, core component manufacturing, and large-scale applications.
Once completed, it is expected to deliver 50GWh of annual system integration capacity, with its annual output value projected to approach RMB 10 billion at full production.
