As reported by the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), the groundbreaking ceremony for the Atum Solar Complex was held on December 15. The project is a joint venture of JA Solar, Egyptian local enterprise AH Industrial Management, UAE-based Global South Utilities and Bahrain’s Infinity Capital.
It is learned that the project is located in the TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone in Egypt, with a total investment of approximately $210 million and a floor area of 200,000 square meters. The project agreement was signed earlier on August 27, 2025, meaning it took less than four months from signing to the official groundbreaking.
Designed with a planned capacity of 2GW solar cells, 2GW solar modules and 1GWh energy storage systems, the solar complex is scheduled to be completed in three years. All the 2GW solar cells produced will be exported to global markets, while the 2GW solar modules will be mainly supplied to the local Egyptian market as well as those in the Middle East and Africa, so as to meet regional demand in a more targeted manner.
During the construction and production phases, the project plans to source local materials such as aluminum and glass in Egypt. This initiative aims to boost local production rates and drive the development of related industries. Once completed, the project is expected to create a large number of job opportunities for the local community.
