On January 5, BOE issued an announcement stating that a number of investors recently conducted an on-site visit to the pilot production line of Hefei BOE Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. Based on the outcomes of this research and exchange, BOE’s business layout, technical indicators and follow-up plans in the perovskite photovoltaics sector have been clearly presented.
Production Line Construction
BOE’s foray into the perovskite battery sector is underpinned by its profound technological accumulation in the display industry. Perovskite and display technologies are highly compatible in terms of technical principles and device structures. BOE’s mature capabilities in glass-based processing, thin-film deposition, encapsulation and equipment application can be directly transferred to perovskite manufacturing processes, providing solid support for large-scale intelligent production.
According to the announcement, in terms of production line construction, it took only 38 days for BOE’s pilot line from equipment installation to the roll-out of the first batch of samples.
Meanwhile, in the perovskite photovoltaics field, relying on its unique advantages in glass-based thin-film processing and encapsulation technologies, BOE has completed the reserve of core perovskite capabilities and built a fully automated flexible perovskite production line. Designed to balance process flexibility and continuous production capacity, the line lays a foundation for technological optimization and capacity release.
Progress of Perovskite Projects
BOE adopts a parallel R&D approach for rigid, flexible and tandem module technology routes, and has now established the full technological process across three platforms: glove box (2.5*2.5 cm), experimental line (30*30 cm) and pilot production line (120*240 cm).
Tested by an authoritative third-party laboratory, for rigid modules, the small-cell device has achieved a maximum steady-state efficiency of 27.37%. The pilot line has delivered a power output of 579 W for a 2.88 ㎡ module, corresponding to a full-area efficiency of 20.11%. For flexible modules, the experimental line has reached a flexible efficiency of 21.39%, while the pilot line has attained a flexible efficiency of 16.6% with a power output of 433 W.
Product Characteristics and Application Scenarios
Currently, BOE’s demonstration applications of perovskite are mainly focused on two scenarios: architecture and daily life.
In the field of building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), the company has built its first perovskite "zero-carbon cabin", and is simultaneously advancing the R&D and application of standardized products such as photovoltaic floor tiles and photovoltaic roof tiles. In daily life scenarios, BOE has collaborated with multiple consumer electronics enterprises to launch innovative products including photovoltaic price tags and autonomous vehicles, further expanding the application scope of perovskite technology.
BOE stated that its current R&D focus remains on improving the conversion efficiency and service life of perovskite batteries. In the next step, the company will accelerate the industrialization of technological achievements from the pilot line, promote the large-scale production of perovskite products, and gradually build a complete industrial ecosystem covering materials, equipment and terminal applications while continuously reducing costs and enhancing efficiency.
