On January 19, China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) and PowerChina respectively released the results of energy storage system procurement for their affiliated projects. Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. and BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. emerged as the winning bidders for the South Africa Red Sand large-scale energy storage project and the Handan wind-plus-storage project in Hebei Province, respectively.
01 Sungrow: Awarded the 153 MW Red Sand Large-Scale Energy Storage Project in South Africa
According to the official announcement released by CEEC Gezhouba Electric Power, Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. successfully won the bid for the procurement of the energy storage system for the Red Sand 153 MW / 612 MWh battery energy storage project in South Africa. The winning bid value is approximately RMB 528 million, corresponding to a unit price of around RMB 0.863 per Wh for the energy storage system.
The project is located in the Kheis Local Municipality in South Africa’s Northern Cape Province. The procurement scope includes 37 sets of energy storage systems. Each system consists of four battery containers with the model number ST5015UX-4H and one medium-voltage system (MVS), with an overall configuration of ST20060 kWh–5000 kW–MV–4h. The total rated capacity of all systems amounts to 742.22 MWh.
Under the contract requirements, the project will adopt a phased delivery approach, with each batch required to be delivered within 160 days after receipt of a written production commencement notice.
02 BYD: Secures the 850 MW Handan Wind Power Plus Storage Project
On the same day, PowerChina announced the transaction results for the procurement of energy storage system equipment for the Handan Jiantou New Energy projects (400 MW in Quzhou County and 450 MW in Cheng’an County). BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. was successfully selected as the first-ranked candidate and awarded the contract.
This project is a key supporting facility for the large-scale wind power base in Handan City, Hebei Province, and serves two inland plain wind farms with a combined installed capacity of 850 MW.
Specifically, the Quzhou County project has a planned installed capacity of 400 MW, comprising 50 wind turbines rated at 7.5 MW each and four wind turbines rated at 6.25 MW each. The Cheng’an County project has a planned installed capacity of 450 MW and will be equipped with 60 wind turbines rated at 7.5 MW each.
