According to EnergyTrend，five enterprises including Shuangdeng and Meifan Energy Storage have reported new progress in their energy storage projects recently. The portfolio covers Shuangdeng’s 10 GWh energy storage cell project, Meifan Energy Storage’s 2 GW battery project, a 30 GWh energy storage cell and equipment manufacturing project, Punada’s 5 GWh sodium-ion battery project, and Wanhua Chemical’s lithium iron phosphate project, among others.
Shuangdeng’s Energy Storage Cell Project to Start Trial Production in August
As released by Jiangsu Jiangyan on May 24, the main steel structure of Shuangdeng’s new energy storage cell plant has been completed. The plant is expected to be finished in June 2026, followed by equipment delivery, installation and commissioning. Trial production is scheduled to kick off in August.
With a total investment of RMB 5 billion and an investment of RMB 1 billion for Phase I, the project will deliver an annual production capacity of 10 GWh of lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries upon completion. It will serve as Shuangdeng’s global headquarters and a new energy storage zero-carbon industrial park. The company will focus on tackling core technologies for high-safety and long-cycle energy storage products, as well as advancing technical iteration for AIDC energy storage and green power plus energy storage solutions.
Meifan Energy Storage’s 2 GW Battery Project Nears Commissioning
According to the update released by Xingtai Economic Development Zone on May 23, Meifan Energy Storage’s 2 GW all-vanadium flow battery project is in the final stage before official operation.
The project involves a total investment of RMB 1.25 billion, with core production lines for automatic stack assembly, proton exchange membrane and carbon felt. Currently, the cutting lines for proton exchange membranes and carbon felts have been installed, commissioned and put into stable trial operation. The installation of key equipment for the fully automatic stack production line is drawing to a close, and the technical team is conducting joint commissioning and testing simultaneously.
Full-process joint debugging and testing commenced in April, and the project is poised for formal production. Upon full operation, it will achieve an annual output of 2 GW all-vanadium flow batteries, emerging as a major manufacturing base for long-duration energy storage equipment.
30 GWh Energy Storage Cell & Equipment Manufacturing Project Approved for Filing
On May 22, the industrial project filing application submitted by Inner Mongolia Zhilian Huitong Logistics Co., Ltd. for the 30 GWh large-capacity cell and new energy storage equipment intelligent manufacturing project was approved by the Bureau of Big Data and Government Services of Alxa Economic Development Zone, as the project complies with relevant industrial policies and market access requirements.
The project comprises workshops for 30 GWh large-capacity cells, batteries, formation and grading, battery modules & PACK, energy storage equipment assembly, a testing center, as well as supporting and auxiliary facilities.
The total investment reaches RMB 7.5 billion, including RMB 15 million of self-owned funds and the rest financed by bank loans. Construction is set to start in May 2027, and the project is scheduled for completion and operation in May 2030. Inner Mongolia Zhilian Huitong Logistics Co., Ltd. is a state-owned enterprise.
EIA Public Notice Issued for 5 GWh Sodium-ion Battery R&D and Production Project
On May 22, the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for the 5 GWh sodium-ion battery R&D and production project of Guangdong Punada Power Co., Ltd. was publicly announced.
Located in Guangdong Renhua Industrial Transfer Industrial Park, the project focuses on the R&D and production of sodium-ion batteries, cathode materials and anode materials. Its designed annual output includes 1.13 GWh of cylindrical low-temperature high-rate sodium-ion cells, 0.86 GWh of pouch low-temperature high-rate sodium-ion cells, 3.02 GWh of prismatic aluminum-shell energy storage-type sodium-ion cells, 10,000 tons of cathode materials and 5,000 tons of anode materials.
Boasting a total investment of RMB 6.75 billion, the project targets three major application scenarios: energy storage, low-speed transportation and special equipment. It aims to build a comprehensive base for the R&D and production of sodium-ion cells, battery modules and energy storage systems.
The project is developed in two phases. Phase I, with an investment of RMB 1.35 billion, will build production lines for 5 GWh sodium-ion batteries, 10,000 tons of cathode materials and 5,000 tons of anode materials, together with supporting facilities. The project completed filing in December 2025, officially started construction on March 8, 2026, and the pre-approval public notice for the construction land planning permit was issued on March 16 the same month.
Wanhua Chemical’s Lithium Iron Phosphate Capacity to Hit 820,000 Tons
During the company’s performance briefing on May 22, Li Limin, Secretary of the Board of Wanhua Chemical, stated that the annual capacity of its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) projects is expected to reach 820,000 tons this year.
The company’s Haiyang Phase I project with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons has been put into operation. Construction of Haiyang Phase II and Phase III, each with a 200,000-ton production line, is underway and both are expected to be commissioned by the end of this year. In addition, the 320,000-ton Laizhou Phase I project broke ground on March 17 and will also be completed and launched by year-end.
