EnergyTrend has learned that the industrial rollout of sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries has accelerated recently. Energy storage and power battery projects across multiple regions have completed filing, broken ground for construction or entered commercial operation. Meanwhile, leading enterprises are actively expanding overseas production capacity. Below are the latest updates on key new energy battery projects unveiled recently.
Changhong Energy’s Malaysian Lithium Battery Project Approved
On June 26, Changhong Energy issued an announcement stating that it had received an approval document issued by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Mianyang City, forwarded by its controlling shareholder Sichuan Changhong Electronic Holding Group Co., Ltd. The document granted principal approval for Changhong Sanjie New Energy Co., Ltd. to invest in and construct a lithium battery production line project in Malaysia.
The total investment of the project shall not exceed 564.6026 million Malaysian Ringgit, equivalent to approximately RMB 9.46 billion.
Previously, on April 3, Changhong Energy convened the 5th meeting of its 4th Board of Directors, which reviewed and passed the Proposal on the Company’s Planned Investment in Constructing a High-Rate Lithium Battery Production Base in Malaysia. Per the announcement, the proposed Malaysian high-rate lithium battery production base still requires review and approval by the company’s shareholders’ meeting.
Guizhou’s 10 GWh Lithium Battery Project Hits New Construction Milestones
According to an official release from Jinsha dated June 25, construction of Hongjun High-Energy (Guizhou) Intelligent Power Battery Project located in Jinsha Economic Development Zone, Bijie City, Guizhou Province, has achieved fresh progress. Designed with an annual output of 10 GWh of power lithium-ion batteries and supporting energy storage systems, the project targets the commissioning of its first production line in early 2027.
The project was signed in September 2025 and broke ground in January 2026. With a total investment of RMB 2.45 billion, it covers a land area of 335 mu and boasts a planned total construction area of 214,000 square meters. It encompasses functional zones including cell manufacturing, battery system assembly, supporting warehouses and comprehensive office premises.
Ningfu New Energy’s 30 GWh Sodium-ion Battery Project Gets Filing Approval
On June 24, the 30 GWh sodium-ion battery project within the Fuxin Battery Industrial Park obtained filing approval from the Development and Reform Bureau of Qingxiu District, Nanning City. The legal entity undertaking the project is Guangxi Ningfu New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
Records show that Ningfu New Energy was incorporated in July 2021 with a registered capital of RMB 3.459 billion, serving as a holding subsidiary of Do-Fluoride located in Nanning, Guangxi. On October 22, 2025, Do-Fluoride announced the signing of a full industrial chain Fuxin Battery project in Nanning, Guangxi, with a total investment of RMB 150 billion and an additional capacity of 100 GWh.
As of February 2026, Factory 1 and Factory 2 of Ningfu have been put into operation with a combined capacity of 20 GWh. Factory 3, with a capacity of 20 GWh, is scheduled to reach full production in October 2026, while the environmental impact assessment public consultation for the 30 GWh Factory 4 project has been completed.
New Energy Storage Industrial Park in Maoming, Guangdong Commences Operation
Per an official release from Maoming, Huapu New Energy Application Complex Project within Madian River New Energy Storage Industrial Park in Dianbai District officially entered commercial operation on June 23. All workshops and exhibition halls of the new plant have been fully commissioned, intelligent production lines run stably, and multiple self-developed energy storage products have been officially launched to the market.
The project focuses on R&D, manufacturing of energy storage batteries and energy storage system integration, and was signed on January 22 this year. It carries a total investment of RMB 120 million and covers a plant area of 11,384.37 square meters. The facility builds an integrated new energy industrial platform integrating product exhibition, R&D & production, and cross-border e-commerce sales, specializing in premium products such as residential energy storage inverters and commercial & industrial energy storage cabinets.
3 GWh Sodium-ion Battery Production Base Project Completed Filing
On June 17, Taiji Sodium (Jingzhou) Technology Co., Ltd. submitted its sodium-ion battery production base project for filing approval. Upon full completion and production, the facility is expected to deliver an annual output of 3 GWh of large cylindrical sodium-ion battery cells and matching energy storage modules. Construction is scheduled to kick off in September 2026.
Official documents indicate the project involves a total investment of RMB 1.5 billion, covers a land parcel of 121 mu, and features a total construction area of 97,000 square meters. New facilities to be built include highly automated intelligent production lines for large cylindrical sodium-ion cells, automated sodium-ion battery PACK module production lines, alongside supporting R&D, testing, warehousing, office and living amenities.
Records show Taiji Sodium was founded in June 2026 with a registered capital of RMB 50 million. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Flexible Intelligent Computing (Huating) Technology Co., Ltd., under Yunnan Industrial Investment Group.
