According to TrendForce Photovoltaic & Storage Watch, LONGi Green Energy issued a public announcement on July 29 prior to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval for its "Novel Crystalline Silicon-Perovskite Tandem Solar Cell Technology and Equipment Industrialization Project."
According to the announcement, LONGi plans to invest 204 million yuan to construct a 100 MW pilot production line for high-efficiency crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells in Xixian New Area, Shaanxi Province.
Categorized as a modification project, it covers an area of approximately 4,000 square meters inside the existing plant of the previously registered "Phase I Pilot Project of LONGi Share Central Research Institute." The project will utilize the leased factory space and supporting facilities of the original project while installing key equipment, including perovskite thin-film deposition systems, perovskite rapid crystallization tools, and functional layer thin-film deposition equipment. The primary objective is to build a 100 MW pilot production line to carry out research, development, and pilot-scale testing for novel high-efficiency crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells.
In recent years, LONGi has continuously intensified its R&D efforts in crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells. In May 2026, the conversion efficiency of LONGi's independently developed two-terminal crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cell reached 35.2%, which was recorded in the 68th edition of the Solar Cell Efficiency Tables published by Professor Martin Green’s team at the University of New South Wales, Australia. In July, LONGi further raised the conversion efficiency for this technology route to 35.5%, breaking the world record for this technology once again.
The establishment of this 100 MW pilot production line marks a critical step for LONGi, signifying that its silicon-perovskite tandem cell development is advancing beyond laboratory efficiency breakthroughs into pilot-scale validation and commercial industrialization.
