On September 4, the "Intelligent Upgrade and Renovation Project for the Annual Production of 0.763 GW High-Efficiency N-Type BC Solar Cells," submitted by Yunnan Runergy Century Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd., officially received enterprise investment project filing approval.
Located in the Qujing Economic and Technological Development Zone in Qujing City, Yunnan Province, the project is classified as a facility modification with a total investment of 36.719 million yuan. According to current planning, construction is scheduled to begin in December 2026 with an estimated two-year development period, targeting completion and commissioning by December 2028.
The project will utilize existing manufacturing facilities to implement intelligent upgrades. It aims to build a high-efficiency BC solar cell production line through equipment dismantling and relocation, modification and reuse of existing machinery, addition of key process equipment, and upgrades to auxiliary plant facilities.
Runergy previously established a 13 GW N-type high-efficiency solar cell green smart factory in Qujing, Yunnan. As this technical modification covers only 763 MW of capacity, its scale remains relatively limited.
For Runergy, the primary value of this project lies in testing whether existing N-type production lines can successfully transition to the BC (Back Contact) technology route with relatively low capital expenditure. If the retrofitted production line achieves stable mass production while meeting expectations in conversion efficiency, product yield, and cost management, it could serve as a solid foundation for further expanding BC capacity in the future.
