On September 15, CATL released two announcements disclosing that its affiliated enterprises have invested in two venture capital funds. With a total subscribed capital contribution of 1.62 billion yuan, the investments target sectors including the renewable energy industry chain, artificial intelligence (AI), embodied intelligence, and frontier technologies.
In the first transaction, CATL’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Ningbo Meishan Free Trade Port Zone Wending Investment Co., Ltd., participated as a limited partner in the Xiamen Times Yiyuan Venture Capital Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership). The subsidiary subscribed to a capital contribution of 1.12 billion yuan, accounting for 19.4175% of the fund's total subscribed capital. The fund's total subscribed capital amounts to 5.768 billion yuan. CATL's controlling shareholder, Xiamen Ruiting Investment Co., Ltd., subscribed to 4.48 billion yuan, accounting for 77.6699% of the fund; meanwhile, the fund manager, Xiamen Puquan Private Equity Fund Management Partnership (Limited Partnership), subscribed to 16.8 million yuan, accounting for 2.9126%.
The Xiamen Times Yiyuan Fund primarily invests in the renewable energy industry chain, industrial applications of artificial intelligence and embodied intelligence, as well as scientific and technological innovation. It conducts its investments mainly through direct investments or special purpose vehicles into the equity of unlisted companies, convertible debt investments, bridge investments, partnerships, or sub-funds.
The second fund is the Xiamen Times Shenyuan Venture Capital Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership). CATL's affiliated enterprise, Fujian Mindong Times Rural Investment Development Partnership (Limited Partnership), participated as a limited partner, subscribing to a capital contribution of 500 million yuan, representing 10.2041% of the fund's total subscribed capital. The total subscribed capital of this fund is approximately 4.9 billion yuan, with other investors including Runze Smart Computing Technology Group Co., Ltd. and Zijin Mining Equity Investment Management (Xiamen) Co., Ltd.
The Xiamen Times Shenyuan Fund focuses its investments on areas such as artificial intelligence, embodied intelligence, technology applications, and frontier technologies. It primarily carries out investments through direct investments or special purpose vehicles into the equity of unlisted companies, convertible debt investments, and bridge investments.
Both funds have an operating term of 7 years. CATL stated that its participation in these funds is primarily aimed at leveraging market-oriented mechanisms and professional investment institutions to expand its investment channels. This move is designed to broaden the company's footprint in the renewable energy industry chain, artificial intelligence, embodied intelligence, and sci-tech innovation sectors. Both investments were made using the company's own funds and will not affect its normal production and business operations.
