Hithium and BYD Unveil New Products Focused on GridForming Energy Storage and SodiumIon Energy Storage

According to EnergyTrend, BYD and Hithium have rolled out brandnew energystorage products over the past two days.

On September 15, BYD Energy Storage unveiled its GWclass GridForming Energy Storage Solution 2.0. On September 16, Hithium launched its newgeneration integrated sodiumion energystorage solution, focusing on the industrialization of sodiumion batteries with clear timelines for mass production.

BYD Energy Storage: Launches Standardized GWScale PowerStation Solution

The 2026 Shenzhen International Digital Energy Exhibition runs from September 15 to 17. At the show, BYD Energy Storage premiered the new GWclass GridForming Energy Storage Solution 2.0.

Centered on the standardized GC Block powerstation unit, each Block reaches 62 MWh, integrating two core pieces of equipment: the MC CubeXT energystorage system and GC Flux PCS 2.0.

Specifically, the MC CubeXT energystorage system is equipped with 1980 Ah energystoragespecific Blade Batteries, suited for longduration energystorage scenarios of 2 hours and above. The new GC Flux PCS 2.0 adopts a 20foot container design with a singleunit power output of 10 MW and a peak conversion efficiency of 99.50 %. It delivers 3times overload capability for 10 seconds, greatly enhancing extremeoperation and faulttolerance performance.

Furthermore, the full solution enables minutelevel blackstart capability for GWscale energystorage power stations, supporting stable 7×24hour uninterrupted power supply.

Hithium: MassProduction Delivery Planned for 2027

On September 16, Hithium released its newgeneration integrated sodiumion solution dedicated to energy storage. Its flagship offering is the ∞Power N4.0 MWh sodiumion energystorage system powered by ∞Cell N785 Ah largecapacity sodiumion batteries. Fullchain massproduction delivery is scheduled for 2027.

At the cell level, the ∞Cell N785 Ah battery features jointlydeveloped NFPP cathode material and inhousedeveloped hardcarbon anode, paired with an electrolyte formula using “microbonding + targeted repair” technology. Manufacturing leverages ultrathick coated electrodes, longlife structural components and wideformat largestacking processes. The cell achieves a cycle life of 20 000 cycles for 2to8hour utilityscale energystorage use cases, and is compatible with existing kiloamperehour lithiumion production and integration platforms.

On the system side, ∞Power N4.0 MWh comes with sodiumionoptimized BMS featuring SOC estimation accuracy ≤ 2.5 %. It supports 800 V1500 V power conversion systems, with PCS ratedpower utilization improved by over 20 % versus the priorgeneration sodiumion system.

The system adopts airliquid hybrid cooling plus AIdriven intelligent thermal management, with builtin weather monitoring and earlywarning functions. Site footprint is reduced by 30 %, allweather comprehensive energy efficiency exceeds 88 %, operational auxiliary losses drop by 30 %, and standby auxiliary losses decrease by 50 %. Engineered for a 30year service life, it matches the design lifespan of power infrastructure.

Hithium also notes that sodiumion development must balance resource accessibility and affordable costs. The target is to bring sodiumion costs on par with lithiumion batteries when lithium carbonate is priced at 150 000 CNF per tonne.

The company has also kicked off the “∞Edge Pioneer Initiative”. Over the next three years, it will conduct battery tests under diverse extreme environments, continuously release technical packages for harshcondition applications, and push energystorage LCOS toward the target of 0.1 CNF per kWh. Beyond largescale utility storage, future product applications will extend to commercialindustrial and residential energystorage segments.
