Recent developments in the solid-state battery sector have gained fresh momentum. On October 21, Phase I of Qingtao Power’s solid-state power battery project in Kunshan officially commenced production with a planned capacity of 10 GWh; concurrently, Guangzhou Tinci Materials Technology Co., Ltd. (Tinci Materials) completed and began trial production on its 100-ton pilot production line for sulfide solid-state electrolytes, with customer testing underway for related samples.
Phase I of Qingtao Power's Kunshan Solid-State Power Battery Project Enters Production
On October 21, the commissioning ceremony for Phase I of the solid-state power battery project of Qingtao Power Technology Development (Kunshan) Co., Ltd. was held in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province.
Jointly established by HUAYU Automotive Systems Company Limited (HASCO)—a subsidiary of SAIC Motor Corporation Limited (SAIC Motor)—and Qingtao (Kunshan) Energy Development Group Co., Ltd. (Qingtao Energy), the project involves a total investment of RMB 8 billion. Phase I is planned as a 10 GWh solid-state power battery manufacturing base, primarily designed to meet the traction battery demand of SAIC Motor's new energy vehicles.
According to information released by the Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, the solid-state battery technology jointly developed by SAIC Motor and Qingtao Energy has already been applied in mass-production vehicle models, gradually establishing a cross-regional industrial collaboration model characterized by "R&D and production in Kunshan, whole-vehicle assembly in Shanghai."
Qingtao Energy specializes in the research, development, and production of solid-state lithium batteries, key battery materials, and manufacturing equipment. Since 2026, the company has continued to advance power battery capacity construction and expand its solid-state battery industrial footprint.
In March, the solid-state battery production line of Taizhou Qingtao Energy Technology Co., Ltd. officially went into production, with its initial line designed for a capacity of 3.5 GWh dedicated primarily to manufacturing power battery cells. Phase I of the project plans for a 10 GWh solid-state power battery production line, with two subsequent lines of equal scale planned for future construction.
In the capital markets, Qingtao Energy completed an approximately RMB 1.9 billion Series H financing round in February and submitted a listing application for the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (HKEX) on April 8, intending to allocate the proceeds toward manufacturing base construction, equipment procurement, R&D investment, and business expansion.
In energy storage and solid-state battery materials, Qingtao Energy has also been moving projects forward. In May, the company signed an investment agreement with the Hohhot Economic and Technological Development Zone for a 20 GWh zero-carbon manufacturing base project for solid-state cells and battery systems, representing a planned total investment of approximately RMB 5 billion.
Meanwhile, Phase II of the dedicated materials for solid-state batteries and zero-carbon industrial park project by Qingtao (Wuhai) Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is currently under construction. This phase is designed for a 5 GWh semi-solid-state energy storage cell production line and a 500-ton solid-state electrolyte production line, with trial operations targeted for October 2027.
Tinci Materials Initiates Trial Production on Sulfide Solid-State Electrolyte Pilot Line
On October 21, Tinci Materials announced that its Yichang project—designed for an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of electrolyte—completed filing and registration in September and is currently advancing regulatory approvals for environmental, safety, and energy evaluations, with construction scheduled to begin in November this year. Simultaneously, the company's 100-ton pilot production line for sulfide solid-state electrolytes in Jiujiang was completed and entered trial production, with sample testing underway for prospective clients.
Located in the Yaojiagang Chemical Industry Park in Zhijiang, Hubei Province, the Yichang project is designed for an annual capacity of 300,000 tons of electrolyte. Tinci Materials plans to leverage the Yichang facility to build an integrated industrial park encompassing phosphate ore mining and processing, cathode material precursors, lithium iron phosphate (LFP), and electrolytes. Once completed, the project will further optimize the company's electrolyte production footprint across central China.
At present, Tinci Materials is advancing R&D and pilot validation for sulfide solid-state electrolytes. Tinci Materials stated that following on-site visits and technical audits by overseas clients, sample delivery and testing have officially commenced from its Jiujiang 100-ton pilot facility. Concurrently, the company is conducting compatibility validation tests with leading domestic cell manufacturers to advance material performance matching and process verification.
Previously, during an investor relations event in March 2026, Tinci Materials stated that its sulfide solid-state electrolytes had reached the kilogram-scale pilot sampling stage, with a 100-ton pilot line for lithium sulfide and solid-state electrolytes expected to go into operation in the third quarter of 2026. In addition, the company's UV-curable adhesive frames engineered for solid-state batteries have achieved small-batch commercial sales.
During the first half of this year, Tinci Materials sustained solid growth across its core businesses. Its semi-annual report showed that sales volume of lithium-ion battery electrolytes exceeded 440,000 tons in the first half of 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 41%, driven by a more than 100% year-on-year surge in electrolyte sales for energy storage batteries. During the same period, the company achieved operating revenue of RMB 14.709 billion, up 109.28% year-on-year, while net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company reached RMB 2.86 billion, reflecting a year-on-year surge of 967.91%.
Tinci Materials previously stated that its overseas projects in the United States and Morocco are both progressing as scheduled, with construction expected to be completed between late 2027 and the first half of 2028. In September, Tinci Materials also disclosed that its proposed H-share offering had been reviewed and approved by The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, maintaining steady progress on its offshore listing.
