On October 20, Guangdong New Energy Storage National Research Institute Co., Ltd. completed its corporate registration changes, raising its registered capital from 200 million yuan to approximately 290 million yuan, representing an increase of about 44.79%. This round of capital injection introduced new shareholders, including Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), Shanghai Electric Group, Shanghai Putailai New Energy Technology (Putailai), and Eastone Century Technology.
Established in April 2023, Guangdong New Energy Storage National Research Institute Co., Ltd. serves as the primary operating entity of the National New Energy Storage Innovation Center, with operations covering energy storage technology research and development (R&D), testing and validation, demonstration applications, and commercialization.
Prior to this capital increase, the Guangdong New Energy Storage National Research Institute had already brought together an array of enterprises and institutions, including China Southern Power Grid Technology (CSG Technology), China Datang Corporation Science and Technology General Research Institute, China Huadian Engineering Co., Ltd. (CHEC), China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage (CSG Energy Storage), EVE Energy, Zhuhai CosMX Battery, Guangdong HEC Technology Holding (HEC), and UPOWER Energy.
Following this round of capital injection, companies including CATL, Shanghai Electric Group, Putailai, and Eastone Century further joined the shareholder roster. Among them, CATL and its second-tier wholly owned subsidiary, Xiamen Empirical Energy Storage Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., simultaneously acquired equity stakes. On a look-through basis, China Southern Power Grid (CSG) affiliates hold a combined equity stake of over 20%, while CATL holds an aggregate stake of approximately 15%, establishing them as the largest shareholder blocs.
In addition, Putailai acquired a newly added stake of approximately 5.17%, affiliated entities of Shanghai Electric Group secured roughly 2.82%, and Eastone Century participated in this round through associated investment vehicles.
This round of capital injection indicates that the shareholder base of the Guangdong New Energy Storage National Research Institute is further expanding across key segments of the industrial supply chain, including battery manufacturing, materials, power equipment, and energy storage applications.
