Recently, LONGi has been advancing two photovoltaic (PV) module production line upgrade and renovation projects in Chuzhou, Anhui Province, planning to convert existing TOPCon lines into HPBC 2.0 lines with an aggregate investment of approximately RMB 1.06 billion. Upon completion of both technical revamps, the facilities are projected to establish an annual production capacity of 6.8 GW of HPBC 2.0 modules.
LONGi S2 Project Upgrades 2.8 GW of HPBC 2.0 Capacity
According to environmental impact assessment (EIA) filings, the "LONGi S2 New Monocrystalline Module Green and Intelligent Equipment Upgrade Project" is situated at No. 19 Huai'an Road, Chuzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, representing a total investment of RMB 323.43 million. The project developer is LONGi Solar Technology (Chuzhou) Co., Ltd.
The project plans to retrofit Workshop 5 and Workshop 8 in the Phase II plant area. Specifically, the five existing TOPCon lines in Workshop 5 will be upgraded into two HPBC 2.0 lines, while the four existing TOPCon lines in Workshop 8 will be upgraded into one HPBC 2.0 line.
Prior to the renovation, the facility had an annual capacity of 5 GW for TOPCon modules; following the overhaul, it will establish an annual production capacity of 2.8 GW of HPBC 2.0 modules.
In terms of equipment, the project will install new machinery, including hot presses, loading machines, busbar soldering machines, screen printers, and automatic glue dispensers, while retrofitting existing laminators, edge-sealing machines, and frame gluing systems, alongside updating select public auxiliary and utility support facilities. Upon project completion, module production will transition to LONGi’s Hi-MO 10 series HPBC 2.0 modules, powered by high-efficiency XBC cells.
Chuzhou Base Adds 4 GW of HPBC 2.0 Capacity
The other technical renovation initiative is the "Chuzhou LONGi Solar Monocrystalline Module Product Upgrade and Intelligent Equipment Enhancement Project." Environmental documentation indicates that the project plans to reconfigure existing module production lines by upgrading three of its six TOPCon lines into HPBC 2.0 lines, while decommissioning and dismantling the remaining three lines.
In terms of the product portfolio, the facility maintained 4.5 GW of TOPCon module capacity prior to the renovation; post-revamp, it will cease TOPCon module production entirely, pivoting to establish an annual production capacity of 4 GW of HPBC 2.0 modules.
The revamp also involves adjustments to manufacturing equipment and supporting installations, adding string layup equipment, drying ovens, and UV resting and curing equipment to accommodate the specific production requirements of HPBC 2.0 modules.
