For this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the Minas Arena (Estadio Mineirao), and related infrastructures have been renovated. The Arena becomes the world’s largest “green” stadium as it is completely powered by solar, and replacing tap water by recycled rain.
Located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, the stadium was built in 1960s and renovated in 2012 for the FIFA World Cup 2014 and 2016 Summer Olympics with a full capacity of about 62,000 audiences. Featured 88 “ribs” arranged outside of the building, architects renovated the stadium from its foundations and used the most advanced facilities.
“Being eco-friendly” is the central idea of the renovation. Henceforth, it installed solar power system to offer electricity consumption, making it the first all-solar-powered stadium in the world. Additionally, architects installed water recycling system to reuse the rain and safe the huge amount of water consumption.
