Google has been devoting to introduce and invest in renewable energy for its data centers and headquarters. Today, the internet enterprise agreed the largest renewable energy deal – buying 407 MW of wind power from Warren Buffett’s MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co.
According to Bloomberg, the capacity will power Google’s Council Bluffs, Iowa, data centers. Terms weren’t disclosed.
To curb greenhouse gas emissions, leading companies like Google, Facebook and Apple Inc. are buying power generated from green projects for their data centers. Google, for example, has spent more than one billion dollars for investing in and buying renewable power and will continue.
Under the agreement, MidAmerican will provide the capacity from multiple wind farms that are part of its Wind VIII effort to add 1,050 MW of wind energy in Iowa by the end of 2015, Bloomberg says.
“It’s not just our own operations we want to green,” Google said in a statement on its website.
