Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES) announced a utility-scale energy storage project in Ohio in cooperated with Sumitomo Corporation and Toshiba. The project marks RES’s sixth MW-scale energy storage project, Willey Battery Storage. It will begin construction in April 2015 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
RES offers development, engineering, and construction of wind, solar, transmission and energy storage solutions in the Americas. The latest-launched MW-scale energy storage project will include three containers of lithium-ion batteries made by Toshiba, and three inverter units manufactured by Parker Hannifin. After the completion, the project will be owned by Sumitomo.
The Willey Battery Storage project will be used to provide frequency regulation service to PJM, the largest grid operator in North America. The monitoring, dispatch and control of the system will be handled by the RESolve energy storage platform, a proprietary technology developed by RES Americas. RESolve will manage the system for maximizing revenue while minimizing battery degradation.

Including the Willey Battery Storage project, RES has 55.6MW and 27.3MWh of energy storage either in operation or under construction.
