Sempra U.S. Gas & Power decides to expand its Mesquite Solar Complex in Arlington, Arizona by adding 100MW of extra installations. The expansion “Mesquite Solar 2” is scheduled to be completed in late 2016 and will be able to power approximately 45,000 homes, while the electricity generated will be sold to Southern California Edison under a 20-year PPA.
With the additional 100MW of installation, the Mesquite Solar complex is among one of the largest PV facility in the U.S. The complex’s three phases are expected to be completed by late 2016, and the total installation capacity will be up to 400MW.
The Mesquite Solar 2 is scheduled to begin construction this fall. In addition, the PPA contracted with Southern California Edison is subject to approval by the California Public Utilities Commission.

Aside from the three phases of constructions, the company is now arranging the 94-MW Copper Mountain Solar 4 project in Nevada. By year-end 2016, the combined solar power portfolio of projects jointly owned by Sempra U.S. Gas & Power in Arizona and Nevada is expected to grow to more than 1,000 MW.
