Global vehicle manufacturer Audi expects to see at least 25% of its total sales in the U.S. will be from electric vehicle sector by 2025. The expectation was declared by Audi’s America President Scott Keogh as the company commits to a roadmap to electrify the world’s transportations.
Audi plans to launch the A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid car later this year. The debut, along with the production version of the fully electric Audi e-tron Quattro concept SUV by 2018, will be the first step for Audi to move toward the 25% EV sales target.
To make the adaptation of EV technology broader in the U.S., Audi will also support developing a nationwide 150kW fast charging network that would charge the EV’s battery to 80% full in simply 30 minutes – the electricity is enough for the Auti e-tron quattro to travel 200 miles. The network will be in place for the launch of the fully electric SUV in 2018.
“With the cars on this stage – the Audi A3 e-tron hybrid plug-in and the Audi e-tron quattro electric SUV – we are, in full force, joining the electric revolution,” said Keogh. “Now is the time to make electric driving more available to the mainstream.”
The A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid is the world’s first volume-oriented electrified vehicle. That unprecedented scale underscores Audi of America’s commitment to electrification, as does Audi’s support of e-tron owners with multiple options for home and portable chargers, residential solar installation and carbon offsets that immediately complement the plug-in hybrid lifestyle.
