Solar benefits all, proves GRID Alternatives, a NPO focusing on brining needy people better lives by solar power. Employee volunteers from Mitsubishi Electric U.S., Inc.’s Cypress, California headquarters and students from California State University Long Beach’s Disabled Student Services jointly installed rooftop solar arrays for two low-income families in LA. The event was led by GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles.
The solar systems combined a 6kW of Diamond Premium™ high efficiency mono-si PV modules donated by Mitsubishi Electric U.S., inverters donated by SolarEdge, and racking donated by Orion Solar Racking. Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation also provided financial support for the installation, while GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles provided training and education in renewable energy for the student volunteers. The systems were installed by the CSULB students – one of the two system owners is a CSULB alumnus.
“We are pleased to extend our reach this year to two families in need,” said Gina Heng, vice president and general manager of Mitsubishi Electric U.S., Inc.’s Photovoltaic Division. “We appreciate the generosity of SolarEdge and Orion Solar Racking, and the leadership of GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles, for making these installations possible.”
Many of the student volunteers are interested in seeking their jobs in the PV industry, and this experience helped them to choose their future. Such an educational support is one of GRID Alternatives’ missions. The NPO also aims to help youth with disabilities maximize their potential and participation in society.
