According to EnergyTrend, a number of enterprises including NR Electric, LG Energy Solution, Sumec and Ganfeng LiEnergy have recently announced major contract signings and the grid-connected operation of energy storage projects. The industry is accelerating its global expansion pace.
NR Electric’s 2.5 GW Energy Storage Project in Saudi Arabia Goes Online
On May 27, the 2.5 GW energy storage project for Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) Phase III, supplied by NR Electric, completed full grid connection and charging-discharging tests and was officially put into operation.
Currently the world’s largest grid-forming energy storage cluster on the power grid side, the project is equipped with over 2,000 PCS units. It delivers grid-forming capabilities including power regulation, primary frequency modulation, dynamic voltage regulation, black start and adaptive operation for strong and weak power grids.
It is reported that NR Electric finished the design and submission of complete drawings within one week, and shipped the first batch of integrated energy storage step-up transformers in just 53 days.
LG Energy Solution Secures Energy Storage Orders Worth 10.8 Billion RMB
On local time May 27, LG Energy Solution announced a battery supply deal with DTE Energy, the largest integrated energy company in Michigan, USA. Under the contract, LG Energy Solution will provide a total of 6 GWh of ESS batteries.
Worth approximately 1.6 billion US dollars (equivalent to 10.8 billion RMB), the contract will be fulfilled over the next two years. The supplied ESS batteries will be deployed across eight major power grid projects in Michigan, including an AI data center project built by global tech giant Oracle in Saline Township, Michigan.
Sumec Wins Solar-storage Microgrid Project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
On May 17, Sumec Energy signed an EPCM contract for the Sabwe Copper Mine solar-storage microgrid project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) with Jchx Mining Management Co.,Ltd.
This marks another major order for Sumec Energy following the 150 MW concentrated solar power project of Noor III in Morocco.
The microgrid will feature a 71.4 MWp photovoltaic system and a 230 MWh energy storage system. Adopting an integrated generation-grid-load-storage model, it integrates photovoltaic power, grid-forming energy storage, municipal power supply and diesel power generation.
Ganfeng LiEnergy’s Energy Storage Project in Romania Commences Operation
The 13.76 MWh energy storage project in Constanța, Romania, jointly developed by Ganfeng LiEnergy and Orient Power, achieved grid connection on April 28. After a one-month trial operation, the project officially entered commercial operation at the end of May.
The project adopts four sets of 3.44 MWh liquid-cooled energy storage systems and two sets of 3.45 MW integrated step-up inverter cabins supplied by Ganfeng LiEnergy.
Orient Power developed the customized EMS (Energy Management System) and user-side SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system for hierarchical management and control. Ganfeng LiEnergy provided core battery cells and turnkey energy storage container solutions.
