First Solar Receives US Government Approval for PV Projects

The US Department of the Interior has recently approved a total of 550MW of First Solar PV’s projects that will be established on public land in accordance to President Obama’s climate and energy policies. First Solar plans to establish two new projects.

Stateline Solar Farm project will be sited in Southern California with a power output of 300MW, encompassing 682 hectares of land. The second project, Silver State South Solar located in Nevada, will have a power output of 250MW and cover 971 hectares. First Solar originally planned to for Silver State South Solar to be 350MW, but reduced the power output by 100 to attain approval, according to PV Tech.

The Department of the Interior hopes that through these projects, comprehensive environmental review and mitigation processes can be accomplished.
