CNFI Leads Industry to Establish "Carbon Neutral Alliance" for 2050 Net Zero

In order to assist the industry in responding to international net zero emissions and the carbon management needs derived from the trend of green supply chain carbon reduction, the Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) held the " Inaugural Industry Carbon Neutrality Alliance Conference" today (8) with a total of 30 industry associations to jointly declare a goal of moving towards net zero emissions by 2050 and establish a new carbon reduction model of "leading small with big."

As the world faces the pressure of 2050 carbon neutrality and carbon border adjustment mechanisms, the government has also proposed a net zero emission path. In view of the increasing number of non-governmental self-organized net-zero initiatives or climate alliances, the CNFI will cooperate with the government to promote carbon reduction policies and respond to the announcement of reduction targets by large and small groups. It plans to lead various industry associations and corporate members and have large enterprises lead SMEs to gradually build carbon management capabilities.

Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua pointed out that the manufacturing industry accounts for more than 30% of Taiwan's GDP, so carbon reduction in the manufacturing industry is very important. Since the manufacturing industry requires export, not only do customers care about carbon reduction plans, but exporters also need to pass the EU's "Carbon Border Adjustment" (CBA), so a carbon reduction mechanism is inevitable.

The CNFI called on various industries to set up carbon neutrality alliances. In addition to declaring its promotion goals to all sectors of the society, it also hoped to call on more industries to invest, so that mature carbon reduction technology and experience can be passed on and link with supply chain to go international. CNFI Chairman Matthew F.C. Miau said that from June to August this year, the company will hold 20 carbon inventory and carbon footprint seminars for industries such as food, textile, chemical leather glue, electromechanical, metal, construction engineering and special zone industry to promote the establishment of independent enterprises, carbon management capabilities, and enhance the willingness of enterprises to implement independent carbon reduction.

Among them, the Industrial Carbon Neutrality Alliance hopes to implement the big leading small and join hands with members and member manufacturers of the CNFI to help the industry achieve its phased goals in 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality in 2050 including strengthening industrial carbon management capabilities, establishing an industrial carbon reduction service platform, and promoting diversification to take a big leading the small approach.

The short-term promotion goal is to carry out carbon inventory and reduction work, assist enterprises to build their ability to adapt to changes, and then promote low-carbon/negative carbon and energy resource recycling technologies. The long-term goal is to assist the sustainable development of the industry in response to climate change.
