Recently, a number of companies including CALB, Weilan New Energy, and Changzhou Lithium Source have successively announced major developments, with multiple new projects either breaking ground or being formally signed.
01CALB Breaks Ground on 51 GWh Power and Energy Storage Battery Project
On January 10, the CALB Xinyang Base project officially broke ground in the Yudongnan High-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Henan Province. The project has a total investment of RMB 9.63 billion and is planned to build production lines with a total capacity of 51 GWh for power and energy storage batteries.
The project will primarily deploy advanced lithium-ion battery production lines, with products covering both power batteries and energy storage batteries. It is scheduled to commence production in October 2026 and is expected to reach full capacity by January 2028.
According to industrial and commercial registration information, the project’s operating entity, CALB Technology (Xinyang) Co., Ltd., was established on November 27, 2025, with a registered capital of RMB 2.8 billion. The company is a joint venture between CALB and the state-owned Xinyang Yudongnan Industrial Investment Co., Ltd., with equity stakes of 65% and 35%, respectively. Its business scope includes new material technology R&D, battery manufacturing, and battery sales.
02 Weilan New Energy’s 15 GWh Solid-State Battery Project Lands
On January 10, Weilan New Energy formally signed an agreement with the Jiangning Development Zone to build a solid-state lithium battery production base with an annual capacity of 15 GWh.
According to the agreement, the project will involve a total investment of RMB 5.2 billion. Construction will mainly cover the manufacturing of solid-state lithium battery cells, battery PACKs (battery packs), and energy storage equipment.
The project investment entity, “Yunshi Weilan,” was established in October 2025 and is jointly funded by Shandong Yunshi Forestry Development Co., Ltd. and Weilan New Energy. Among them, Shandong Yunshi Forestry Development (a subsidiary of Shaanxi Forestry Group) holds a 90% stake, while Weilan New Energy holds the remaining 10%.
03Changzhou Lithium Source Plans 240,000-Tonne LFP Cathode Material Production Line
On January 1, Changzhou Lithium Source New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. formally signed an investment agreement with Jintan District, Changzhou City, to build a high-performance lithium battery cathode material project in the Hua Luogeng High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.
The project will fully adopt a new-generation industry process and is designed to meet large-volume order demand from customers including CATL, EVE Energy, and Cornex New Energy. Once fully operational, the project is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 240,000 tonnes of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials.
