Cherry Ramps Up Procurement of Solid-State Battery Equipment

According to EnergyTrend, on October 8, Chery Group’s procurement service platform released six bidding announcements for solid-state battery equipment. The tender covers ultrasonic spot welders, Raman spectrometers, ICP-OES instruments, defoaming machines, roll presses, slitting machines and sealing machines, spanning material analysis, performance testing and cell manufacturing processes.

In addition, DEYI Energy, Chery’s power battery subsidiary, issued a procurement notice for the wastewater treatment station project of its solid-state battery pilot line. It is understood that DEYI Energy completed an equity restructuring in June 2026. Wuhu Qida Power Battery System Co., Ltd., under Chery, holds an 82.61% stake and has become its controlling shareholder.

Chery has been engaged in solid-state battery development for years. At its Battery Night event in March 2026, Chery revealed that its “Rhino S” all-solid-state battery cell achieves an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, with R&D targeting 600 Wh/kg.

The 400 Wh/kg variant adopts a sulfide solid electrolyte paired with a high-nickel ternary cathode system, while the 600 Wh/kg version uses an in-situ polymerized solid electrolyte and lithium-rich manganese cathode system.

In February 2026, Chery completed construction of a 0.5 GWh all-solid-state battery pilot line, enabling continuous production of 60 Ah-class all-solid-state cells and rollout of PACK prototypes. In June of the same year, Chery signed an agreement with Wuhu High-Tech Zone to build a global battery R&D center, which is planned to host solid-state battery pilot lines, trial production lines and laboratories.

Regarding vehicle integration plans, Chery previously stated that Rhino semi-solid batteries are scheduled to be installed on the EX7 of Exeed in Q4 2026. All-solid-state batteries will undergo vehicle loading validation in 2027, with the Exeed ES8 as the first equipped model.

Beyond in-house R&D, Chery is also building out the solid-state battery supply chain via investments. Chery New Energy, its holding subsidiary, owns a 9.89% stake in Anwa Technology. Anwa Technology adopts an oxide-polymer composite solid electrolyte route. The firm rolled out products from a 1.25 GWh designed-capacity solid-state battery production line in July 2025.
