India Develops Flexible Module formed with Organic Paper Solar Substrate for Power Generation

published 2020 年 10 月 16 日 18:30
The principle of power generation for solar panels is to convert solar radiation into electricity, so will it be possible to generate power using indoor lighting? Indian scientists have recently developed an organic solar module made with a paper-based substrate that possesses both cost and environmental advantages, and is able to achieve a power density of 12µW/cm2 under 1000 lux, which makes it possible in providing power for small electronic equipment in the future. ...  more

South Korean scientists have developed a magical looking thin film solar panel with slight fluorescent colors that not only possesses a remarkable appearance, but is also produced with materials that are friendly to the environment, and the solar panel is able to achieve a conversion efficiency of 18% alongside its flexible and bendable advantages. ...  more

NREL: High-Value Silicon Is More Important Than Intact Wafers in Recycling of Solar Panels

published 2020 年 07 月 23 日 10:30
Researchers at the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently released a study that provides several recommendations on developing the methods for recycling solar panels (or photovoltaic modules). The study, which was published in the journal Nature Energy, estimates that the cumulative mass of discarded solar panels worldwide could reach up to 80 million metric tons by 2050. After evaluating various recycling methods, NREL has concluded that the focus of recycling solar panels should be on the recovery of high-value materials instead of the preservation of silicon wafers for future reuse. The NREL study also states that more aggressive R&D is needed to reduce the cost and environmental impact of the recycling process. ...  more

Maximum Penalty of NT$3 Million for Littered Solar Panels as Recycling and Disposal Mechanism Initiated

published 2020 年 05 月 06 日 18:30
Taiwan has been vigorously promoting solar power in recent years, and the “disposal” of solar power is also an essential part for the development of the energy. The Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan, finally announced the solar recycling and disposal mechanism not long ago, which states that each unit of solar panel must be registered and paid with a recycling and cleaning fee in advance, and a maximum fine of NT$3 million will be imposed for any littered solar panels. ...  more

Is Human Health Threatened by Solar Panels in Landfills? IEA Research: No

published 2020 年 04 月 10 日 18:30
The optimal method in disposing discarded solar panels is obviously recycling and reusing, which further elevates reuse technology and enhances the values of recycled products, though old solar panels are mostly accumulated in storage or are buried in landfills before relevant mechanisms are established. Is human health threatened by the pollutants from these discarded solar panels? The answer is no, according to the research conducted by the International Energy Agency (IEA). ...  more
