Vienna-based Activ Solar is announcing the start of commissioning works of the 69.7 megawatt peak (MWp) Nikolayevka Solar Park in the Simferopol region of Crimea, Ukraine.

“The completion of the Nikolayevka Solar Park is another major achievement for Activ Solar in Crimea and the third-biggest project we have developed in Ukraine”, said Kaveh Ertefai, Chief Executive Officer of Activ Solar. “This project reconfirms our commitment to support sustainable energy development in the country and supply much needed clean electricity to Crimea. We are proud of our highly-skilled local execution team, which supports the growth and construction of our solar project pipeline in this area.”

The Nikolayevka Solar Park, spanning over 116 hectares of land, consists of 52 inverters and 290,048 polycrystalline solar modules installed on a four-row mounting system, which will provide an estimated 90,000 MWh of electricity per year - an equivalent saving of approximately 72,000 tons of CO2.

The total electricity consumption in Crimea in 2012 was about 5.5 billion kWh. With the commissioning of the Nikolayevka Solar Park the total solar energy capacity in Crimea will cover almost 7% of the peninsula electricity needs. The execution of this project has created more than 350 construction jobs and 10 full-time operational jobs.
