Xiaomi enters battery manufacturing, sets up joint venture with CATL

According to QICHACHA APP, recently, Beijing Times Power Battery Company Limited was established, with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan. The scope of business is battery manufacturing. Shareholding penetration from QICHACHA APP shows that the company is jointly held by Xiaomi Automobile, CATL, Beijing Energy and so on.

It is reported that the Beijing Times Power Company will invest in the construction of the core factory in Beijing. The battery of the electric car using "cell - module - battery pack" assembly mode, and the cell is the smallest unit of the battery pack.

The electric cell put into production in Beijing Times factory can be supplied for each car enterprise, and be used by car enterprises to develop and assemble the whole car battery pack with different technical characteristics.

Xiaomi's collaboration with CATL

In December last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology disclosed information such as the power battery pack parameters of Xiaomi's first model, SU7, in the 72nd batch of "Catalogue of New Energy Vehicle Models Exempt from Vehicle Purchase Tax".

According to the document, the Xiaomi SU7 is equipped with two capacity battery packs, 73.6kWh and 101kWh, and the pure electric range is 628km/668km and 750km/800km respectively. Among them, the 73.6kWh version of the battery is a ternary lithium battery provided by CATL and a motor provided by Suzhou Inovance United Power, with a peak power of 220kW/275kW. The 101 kWh version is a lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by BYD's Xiangyang Fodi Battery, paired with an electric motor from United Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd., with a peak power of 220 kW.

On December 28 last year, at the Xiaomi automotive technology conference, Lei Jun, chairman of Xiaomi Group, announced the information of Xiaomi SU7 for the first time. It is reported that Xiaomi cars are equipped with 101kWh CATL Kirin batteries and CTB integrated battery technology. The 800V high-voltage battery pack carried by the car was completed by thousands of engineers from Xiaomi and CATL over a period of two years, and the battery cells were not self-developed.

On March 28 this year, at the launch conference of Xiaomi cars, Lei Jun said that Xiaomi SU7 provides a total of three versions: standard version, Pro, and Max, with prices of 215,900 yuan, 245,900 yuan, and 299,900 yuan respectively. Among them, the standard version and the Pro version will be equipped with CATL's power battery. The other standard model uses BYD's blade battery with a power of 73.6 KWh and a range of 700 km.

According to the PPT displayed at the press conference, the Xiaomi SU7 Pro will be equipped with the CATL Shenxing battery all-round series, with a power of 94.3 KWh and a range of 830 kilometer. The Xiaomi SU7 MAX is powered by a CATL ternary Kirin battery with a power of 101 KWh and a range of 800 km. According to the video released on CATL's official WeChat account that night, the Kirin battery all-round series equipped with Xiaomi SU7 MAX can quickly replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in 19 minutes.
