Hybrid Passenger Aircraft to Take Off in 2022

The global green trend has extended its reach to the aviation industry, as a private charter flight service provider in California, has placed orders for 100 fuel oil-electricity hybrid passenger aircrafts, scheduled for takeoff in 2022.

JetSuite announced placement of orders with Zunm Aero, a hybrid aircraft manufacturer startup, for the aircraft capable of carrying 12 passengers at maximum, according to Barronˋs, a news website. With a cruise range of 700 miles (around 1,127 kilometers), the aircraft will emit exhaust 80% less than traditional aircrafts, plus much less noise, and needs runway only 2,200 feet (670 meters) long for takeoff/landing.

The green aircraft will save US$250 per hour in energy cost, which can be reflected in lower charge for flight. JetSuite points out that the aircrafts will be used for regional flight, such as Los Angeles-San Francisco or New York-Boston.

Airbus also unveiled plan last year collaborating with Rolls-Royce and Siemens in developing hybrid aircraft, scheduled for rollout in 2030.
