The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) was awarded Green Car Journal’s 2019 Green SUV of the Year™ today at the Los Angeles Auto Show’s AutoMobility LA. The Outlander PHEV received top honors among a list of some of the largest OEMs in the world, and was recognized for raising the bar in environmental performance at an affordable cost for consumers. The Outlander PHEV remains the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV* and offers the best of both worlds with electric vehicle (EV) efficiency and sport utility capability.

“The Outlander PHEV is a halo vehicle for the brand and we’re proud to bring consumers an efficient yet capable plug-in hybrid CUV at a price point they can afford,” said Fred Diaz, President and Chief Executive Officer, MMNA. “This prestigious award is a testament to the strong value of this vehicle, and reaffirms Mitsubishi’s commitment to an electric-powered future made up of innovative and affordable vehicles.”

Green Car Journal’s Green Car Awards™ program has established itself as the leader in recognizing environmentally-positive vehicles and manufacturers for their accomplishments in the eco-friendly automotive space.

“Today’s SUV buyers increasingly want to drive more efficiently and with lower environmental impact, without giving up the style, convenience, and overall driving experience expected of a sport utility vehicle,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com. “Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV meets these needs in a big way with its innovative series-parallel plug-in hybrid powertrain, all-electric driving capability, and exceptional SUV functionality. It has clearly earned its distinction as the 2019 Green SUV of the Year™.”

The Outlander PHEV boasts a 22-mile all-electric driving range. Mated to a 2.4-liter Atkinson Cycle gasoline engine, it delivers an EPA estimated 74 MPG-e. Paired with Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, standard DC Fast Charging and a starting MSRP of $34,595, the Outlander PHEV proves to be an electrifying addition to Mitsubishi’s dynamic CUV lineup.
