According to Wechat Official Account @Storage Discover, recently, the China Electricity Council (CEC) released the "Briefing on Statistical Data of Electrochemical Energy Storage Power Station Industry in the First Quarter of 2025" (hereinafter referred to as the "Data Briefing").

It is understood that the statistical scope of this briefing includes electrochemical energy storage power stations invested, used, or operated by the 20 enterprise member units of the National Electric Power Safety Production Committee, as well as some electrochemical energy storage power stations connected to the State Grid and the Southern Power Grid.

The Data Briefing shows that the growth rate of electrochemical energy storage slowed down in the first quarter. The enterprise member units of the National Electric Power Safety Production Committee newly put into operation 59 electrochemical energy storage power stations with a total installed capacity of 2.55GW/5.72GWh. By the end of the first quarter, the cumulative number of put-into-operation electrochemical energy storage power stations reached 1532, with a total installed capacity of 64.68GW/147.09GWh.

In terms of regional distribution, the top five provinces with the largest newly added installed capacity are Hebei, Ningxia, Tibet, Henan, and Zhejiang, accounting for 52% of the total newly added installed capacity. In terms of application scenarios, the total installed capacity of newly added independent energy storage and new energy source-integrated energy storage accounted for over 80%.

According to the Data Briefing, in the first quarter, the utilization of electrochemical energy storage power stations continued to improve, with a daily average utilization hour of 2.82 hours, an increase of 0.24 hours compared to the previous quarter and 0.34 hours year-on-year; the daily average equivalent charge and discharge cycles were 0.67 times, an increase of 0.05 times compared to the previous quarter and 0.04 times year-on-year, and the average utilization rate index was 47%, an increase of 5 percentage points compared to the previous quarter and 6 percentage points year-on-year.

In terms of application scenarios, the utilization of thermal power-integrated energy storage, independent energy storage, and new energy source-integrated energy storage all increased compared to the first quarter of 2024. Among them, the daily average utilization hours of thermal power-integrated energy storage were 3.87 hours, a decrease of 0.12 hours compared to the previous quarter but an increase of 1.23 hours year-on-year; the daily average utilization hours of independent energy storage were 3.28 hours, an increase of 0.54 hours compared to the previous quarter and 0.22 hours year-on-year; the daily average utilization hours of new energy source-integrated energy storage were 2.25 hours, an increase of 0.01 hours compared to the previous quarter and 0.36 hours year-on-year.
