published: 2015-04-15 16:01

Marubeni Corp. will work with EDF Energies Nouvelles, a wholly-owned unit of Electricite de France SA, to build a 146MW solar power station in Chile.

The project, to be set up in the Atacama Desert, is equally owned by the EDF unit and Marubeni, the Japanese trading company said in a statement on April 14th. No financial terms were disclosed. The station is estimated to cost as much 40 billion yen ($334 million), the Nikkei newspaper reported earlier.

The Chile government hopes to increase the nation's renewable energy generation to 20% by 2025. This 146MW station will be one of their projects. The solar station is the companies’ third project after developing two wind farms in North America together, according to the statement.
