Tesla Motors (TSLA), manufacturer of the only highway-capable electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster, announced that sales have commenced in the Republic of Singapore. Tesla will directly sell and service the Roadster through a unique arrangement of wholly-owned outlets.

Called the “Garden City,” Singapore has always striven to be a clean, environmentally conscious nation. At the same time, Singapore is dedicated to a no-compromise performance in all aspects of life – best evidenced by the recent running of the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX. These factors make Singapore an ideal market for Tesla.

The Tesla Roadster is the only car that delivers supercar performance with zero tailpipe emissions. It accelerates from 0-100km in under four seconds – faster than almost any other sports cars – yet consumes no petroleum. The Roadster plugs into any conventional outlet and can travel 394 kilometers on a single charge. It is the only sports car in the world that can be charged with solar, hydro or wind energy.

The Singaporean government actively supports electric vehicle ownership with a 40% discount on the Additional Registration Fee for the Roadster. Tesla has also applied to join the Singapore Government’s TIDES electric vehicle research program, which would make a limited number of vehicles available to qualified businesses on a tax-deferred basis. With Tesla, Singapore can achieve the goal of remaining Green and Clean without compromise to the high standards of living its citizens have come to enjoy.
