Bechtel leaders, along with representatives from NRG Energy, Inc., SunPower Corp., and local dignitaries, celebrated the groundbreaking of the California Valley Solar Ranch (CVSR), one of the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities currently under construction in the world. Bechtel is providing engineering, procurement, and construction services for the 250 megawatt (MW) facility located in San Luis Obispo County, north of Los Angeles.

“The California Valley Solar Ranch is a model for responsible design and construction that respects the environment and helps to advance the renewable energy industry in a meaningful way,” said Jim Ivany, president of Bechtel’s renewable power business line, during today’s event. “We are pleased to be working with NRG and SunPower on a project that represents the power of innovation.”

Upon completion, CVSR will produce clean, renewable energy to meet the needs of approximately 100,000 homes.  Construction of the facility is expected to take approximately two years.

Bechtel is a leader in the renewable power industry. In addition to its work on CVSR, the company is currently building the Ivanpah project in the Mojave Desert which is the largest concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) facility every undertaken.
