published: 2015-09-22 12:06

Younicos Inc., a global provider of intelligent energy storage and grid solution, signed an agreement with OCI Solar Power to provide a turnkey battery storage system at one of OCI Solar Power’s project in Texas. Younicos will utilize LG Chem’s battery technology in the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) market.

Younicos will be responsible for design, engineering, integration and construction of the 1MW battery system. Prior to construction, the system will undergo extensive performance testing at Younicos' Technology Center, located in nearby Austin. The project is the first in a broader Younicos/OCI Solar Power strategic relationship, under which the parties will look to partner on future projects within the growing global market for innovative energy storage/solar solutions.

The system is scheduled to come online in early 2016 and will be the first integrated grid-scale solar-plus-storage project in ERCOT. By using LG Chem’s battery technology, Younico’s own proprietary control software will manage system performance within the ERCOT market in conjunction with operation of the solar farm. In addition, this is the second Texas project Younicos announced in the recent. Duke Energy selected Younicos and Samsung SDI toupgrade North America’s largest wind-integrated energy storage system at Duke’s Notrees wind farm in West Texas.

“Younicos has unmatched expertise in the integration of storage with renewable resources, such as wind and solar, and we are the number one provider of grid-scale storage solutions in the Texas market,” said Stephen L. Prince, Younicos Chief Revenue Officer. “We are very pleased to expand our presence in our home market, and we congratulate OCI Solar Power as the first company to develop a grid-scale integrated solar/storage resource here.”
