Azure Power Commissions Karnataka’s Largest Solar Power Plant

Azure Power, a solar power producer in India, announced that it has commissioned a 130 MW solar power project in Chitradurga district, Karnataka under the Karnataka Solar Policy 2014-2021. With this commissioning, Azure Power is now the largest operator of solar power plants in Karnataka.

Azure Power has a contract to supply power for 25 years to Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company Limited, Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited and Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Limited at a tariff of INR 6.51 (~ USD 10.0 cents) per kWh. The project is divided in three sub-projects of 50MWs, 40MWs and 40MWs each and is spread across approximately 668 acres of land. The solar power project will help in electrifying the nearby areas and will create an estimated 600+ local jobs.

Commenting on the occasion, Inderpreet Wadhwa, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Azure Power said, “With the commissioning of this plant, we now have a 150 MW portfolio and proven track record of operating solar power projects in Karnataka. We have once again demonstrated our strong project development, engineering, and execution capabilities. We are delighted to make a contribution towards the realization of our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s commitment towards clean and green energy, through solar power generation.”
